Scalp mole removal - Can it be removed without leaving bald spot? (photos)

Question

I'm 43 years old. I have big birthmark mole on scalp oval 3cm in diameter. It's slightly raised light brown. Can it be removed without leaving bald spot. Not sure if scalp has enough laxity to close such big wound if excised. It' on midscalp region. Grey hairs are growing from it. I have it since forever.

Hello, hope you are well. I routinely perform scalp closures (most often after skin cancer excision), as do many plastic surgeons, and 3-cm would be a very manageable defect. I cannot tell exactly how your hairline is involved with the birthmark, but typically the closure would be designed to camouflage any interruption in the hairline and avoid alopecia (loss of hair) with meticulous surgical technique. We do this by rotating or advancing hair-bearing skin into the defect. Scalp skin is much less pliable than elsewhere on the body, so typically a small defect may result in a relatively long scar, but this is generally concealed within the hair. Good luck!
