Good question. Since the hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is reversible with hyaluronidase, that maybe a safer option. Our skin and joints and other parts of our body makes natural hyaluronic acid gel so it is less likely to cause an immune response. When there is the rare allergic response, it may be to the bacterial proteins that maybe present in very tiny quantities from the manufacturing process. Most of it is washed out, but some may be present. When switching brands, the same allergy may not be present since the manufacturing process is different, so the allergy is unlikely to the hyaluronic acid gel itself. Allergy tests are not required before hand prior to treatment. With collagen, there needs to be an allergy test at least 1-2 weeks prior to treatment. This was before my time, but when HA fillers came to market, it really changed everything since it could be done immediately. Since the collagen comes from cows or pigs etc an allergy test was needed to make sure you don’t get an allergic response to the collagen prior to treatment. If you do have an allergy it can not be dissolved like HA filler so you would need to wait for your body to clean out the foreign material which would take months. Hope that helps. Keep doing your research. Good luck. Best, Dr. Yang
