Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. After placement of implants, the appearance of the breasts will change dramatically over the next several months, as the implants drop, and the overlying tissue stretches to accommodate the extra volume. In your case the swelling from surgery is flattening your implants and holding them high on your chest. Though they will not get bigger, the volume within the implant will redistribute towards the lower portion of your breast achieving a more natural appearance, and filling your bra cup more. I know waiting is difficult, but judge your results at 4-6 months after surgery as most of your breast changes should have occurred by then. Hope this helps.
After an augmentation it takes several months to see your final result. Be patient and follow your surgeons post operative instructions. As for size, many patients worry they went too big or too small right after surgery.
I am sorry to hear about your concerns after breast augmentation surgery. Your plastic surgeon will be best resource when it comes to accurate assessment, advice, and/or meaningful reassurance. Generally speaking, there are many variables when it comes to the final appearance of breasts after breast augmentation surgery. The main variables, in my opinion are your anatomic starting point, exactly how/where the breast implant pockets were dissected and the size/profile of breast implants utilized. Again, for this reason, your plastic surgeon will be your best resource. Generally speaking, breast implants will "drop" into the pocket that was created during surgery. The rate of breast implant "settling" may depend on factors such as size of breast implant pocket dissected, tightness of the overlying skin/muscle layers, and size of breast implant utilized. Normally, it takes about 3-6 months (for some patients longer) to see the final result. As the breast implants "settle", the lower breast poles will round out, and the nipple/areola complexes will seem to sit higher on each breast mound. Many of my patients report that as the swelling around the breast implants (for example, in the sternal area) decreases, they feel that their breasts appear more projecting. Also, in my opinion, the "drop and fluff” phenomenon does hold some validity; as breast implants “settle”, many patients feel that their breasts actually look larger. There is definitely a physiologic and "psychological" (body image) adaptation process that occurs, at differing rates for every patient, for patients who undergo any type of aesthetic surgery, including breast augmentation surgery. Understandably, patients often experience significant emotional "ups and downs" around the time of surgery. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.
The best way to fit implants is to stuff them in a bra and put a T-shirt over it and see what you like. It looks like you have the proper diameter. I don't think that they will fall anymore and your fold beneath the breast is good. Wait a few months to decide if a change in size is what you want. If you do choose to make a change increase by at least 100 cc to really see a difference. All the best,Talmage Raine MD
You are early in the healing stage. It will take weeks to see the final result. Your implant could take 3 months or more to drop into the pocket. Ask your surgeon if he recommends a breast band to help expedite the process. If you have concerns about your implant size, ask your surgeon for a copy of your operative report.
