Thank you for your question. IPL is not the most effective treatment for hair removal. Other lasers such as the YAG or Alex will be more effective in reaching 80-90% hair reduction. Hairs generally grow in less dense and finer with each treatment. Maintenance is required for the desired outcome. I would recommend a consult and treatment under the supervision of a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon for best results and safest treatment options. I hope this helps!
The FDA has cleared IPL and several laser wavelengths for permanent hair reduction (not removal). If the hair follicle is damaged to its maximum extent, the hair will not grow back. But in cases where the follicle is damaged to a lesser extent, the hair may grow back finer and / or lighter in color. Those fine light hairs are then not easily treated with these devices. Best wishes, Ken Dembny
IPL or any true laser for permanent hair removal can cause hair to permanently disappear, and can cause hair that doesn't disappear to be finer than before. ~ Dr. Benjamin Barankin, Toronto Dermatology Centre.
IPL is a light-based device, not a laser, and is less effective and less safe than a true laser such as the lightsheer duet for permanent hair removal. They are widely available in spas & salons, but few credible physicians such as dermatologists would use this for permanent hair removal -...

To best minimize freckles, avoid or protect from the sun using a broad-brimmed hat, large sunglasses, and a good quality sunscreen or sunblock. IPL can be considered, though she is a bit young - that said, if she is quite disturbed by it and can tolerate the discomfort, IPL would be a...
Certainly IPL can be used for hair removal. Of course it will depend on the filter or wavelength used. In my judgement, if decrease hair thickness or decrease hair volume is your goal I recommend a laser made specificalyy for hair removal over the IPL system.
Some edema (swelling) usually occurs after intense IPL, but it should not be getting worse or stronger as the days go on. I would make certain you call the office that did your IPL and report what happened, and suggest that they see you as well. There is a chance the treatment and this swelling...
