Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Yes, TCA cross can be used to improve ice pick scars, but keep in mind, a combination approach will give the most improvement. These types of scars need a combination of lasers, microneedling/prp, Cosmelan, TCA cross, punch excision and fillers. It will take a series of treatments and will need some treatments to maintain. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

RF can be used to treat pigmentation, but it would require higher needle depths to reach the level of the melanocytes and may not give consistent results. I find the Q-switched lasers to better for spot treatment of discrete hyperpigmented areas. Intensed-pulse light therapy is my preference ...
Thank you for your question about microneedling. Microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) will make an impact on your skin texture and pore size. Everyone is different in how soon they will see results from their treatment. You will often begin to see smoother brighter skin wi...
I normally recommend a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart from each other in order to gain the most optimal results, however, see a board-certified dermatologist for a consultation to determine the amount of treatments and to track your progress.
