The success or results of a hair transplant surgery is not about "how many" or "the number of grafts".
The results depend on a variety of other factors such as how long you keep your hair, how you style your hair, the hair color to skin color contrast, curl of your hair, the thickness of your hair.  If you have very fine straight hair that you keep very short, a hair transplant surgery will NOT look good.
The overall success of a hair transplant surgery depends on: (1) artistic and technical skill of your doctor and team (2) communication between you and your doctor to establish a realistic goal.If you are considering a second surgery, it is best to see a doctor in person for an examination of your donor area.

Well most physicians will er on the side of caution and tell you to wait for 6 months. If you have a high density in your donor then you should wait a couple to 3 months to see how your donor faired from the first extraction. If it really looks good then proceed and transplant into new areas of the scalp however CAUTION is needed on how the second extraction is performed as far as the spacing and depletion of the donor.

Because the second round of grafting is going into an area that was not previously transplanted, the second round of grafting can be performed at any time. We often do cases like this in two consecutive days, so it all comes down to your availability and the availability of the clinic.

Your doctor would restore rest of area ( beyond vertex) that is remained untransplanted/bare in second operation that will be planned at least 6 months after first one.  

Great question, in your case, I will recommend 6-8 months minimum after the 1st hair transplant and I will be very careful about a full evaluation of your donor after you had 3,000 grafts. I will review in detail: how the area was healed, scarring of the FUExcisions, donor availability for another 3,000 grafts and to avoiding over harvesting of another 3,000 grafts. Also, it is VERY important to evaluate the hair growth and survival of the recipient area after 3,000 grafts and if a touch-up is needed with a 2nd surgery. Good luck.

With 3000 grafts in the first session, it is highly likely that you will not have the donor supply for many more FUE grafts in a second session without developing donor site depletion. Speak with your surgeon about this so that you don't end jus with a bald donor area
