Surgery done. When can I start running and driving? (Photo)

The compression garment after surgery is usually required for a few weeks. The extra pressure from the Garment helps reduce swelling and discomfort.  We usually aim to achieve circumferential  for about 4 to 6 weeks. Usually one week after surgery you can begin taking moderate walks or riding a stationary bike. Strenuous workouts or aerobic exercise can begin around four weeks post op, however please get approval from your doctor before you begin any workout regimen. 

It is best to follow your surgeon's instructions he/she knows you best. For my patients they are allowed to drive when they have stopped taking pain medication, as for exercise it depends on how they are healing, usually between 4 to 6 weeks. I want my patients to wear their compression vest for 6 weeks. Good luck!

Hi rohin88,Thanks for the post. The questions that you are asking should really be directed to your surgeon and not this forum. The reason being that each surgeon has a different protocol that works best for them. In my practice patients typically wear garments between 3-6 weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. I have them avoid exercise for the period that they are in their compression vest to keep the swelling to a minimum.Sincerely,Dr. Dadvand
