Leakage after drain tube removal, can I use neosporin with gauze?

I had my Drain tubes removed a day ago, the left hole is not draining and is closing well. My right hole is draining a lot. can i put Neosporin with bandage on it? i keep filling up small gauze pads every few hours it is not "clear" but looks like it did when the dr removed the tube and he said it was normal. How can i deal with this.

Drainage after a drain tube is removed can occur and usually will last around 24 hours.  Continue to cover your drain hole with dry gauze and change as often as necessary.

You should discuss this with your surgeon. Having said that my experience is that drainage after drain removal is normal.  It will improve but sometimes the drainage can continue for up to 10 days.  You can also use Poise pads, they collect a lot of drainage. Make sure you let your surgein know what you plan to do.

First, talk to your surgeon. Second, some drainage is normal. Third, it should close soon. I am not a fan of Neosporin. Just keep a dry gauze on it and it should decrease, and then stop, soon.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
