I appreciate your concern. If your CO2 laser resurfacing is performed by a board-certified dermatologist with extensive experience in the procedure, you should not experience any adverse effects to your facial hair. The hair follicle where hair growth initiates, is actually located deeper in the skin than it is safe to go with a CO2 laser. Follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions given by your provider to ensure an optimal outcome. CO2 is fabulous for tightening skin, wrinkle reduction and overall rejuvenation. Good luck!
The chromophore for skin resurfacing lasers such as Erbium or CO2 is water. Hair removal lasers target melanin in the hair follicle . For this reason skin resurfacing is safe on hair bearing skin.
CO2 laser resurfacing is normally not done to a depth that would affect beard growth. It is important to avoid sun exposure to the area after it is treated also.
Hello and thank you for your question. Your beard is safe from damage from CO2 lasers as hair follicles lie deep under the skin away from the laser penetration. Remember to ask about pre-treatment. I find that pre-treating the skin is advantageous to better outcomes. Best of luck to you.
The fractional Co2 treatment does not go deep enough to impact your hair follicles. The hair follicle where hair growth starts is located deeper in the skin than what is being treated on the surface. However, the type of laser, depth of treatment and type of acne scar you are treating are all dependent factors as to whether damage could occur. It is recommended to have a good skin care routine ready for post-treatment. Be cautious and stay away from the sun and use lots of sunscreen.
You're good to go! A proper fractional Co2 treatment does not go to the depth your follicles will be impacted. Nor, does the frequency of light produce heat in the follicles that would otherwise kill them as with other laser frequencies.Be sure to have good skin care lined up prior to your treatment, stay out of th sun for a couple of weeks and be very generous with the sunscreen thereafter.Wishing you a wonderful outcome.Warmly,Arbella Sarkis, MD
I suggest following up with your doctor or a cosmetic dermatologist for a formal evaluation and after care recommendations. I recommend skin care with vitamin c, b5 hydrator, silicone-based scar gels with growth factors, and enzymatic washes with papaya enzyme to give improvement. Sun ...
Thank you for your question. I suggest to see the specialist who can guide you in right direction ( surgical vs none surgical treatment) based on your exam. Best regards, Dr. Danovich.
Full ablative Co2 laser can be performed once a year as in acne scar treatments. Fractional CO2 can be performed within several months of each other.
