Is throbbing pain common after a bite adjustment on a crown?

Root canal done 3 months ago, permanent crown placed 35 days ago. 4 days ago I started experiencing a lot of pain, couldn't put any pressure on the tooth (molar). Dentist took an X-ray and did a bite adjustment. Now, 2 days later, I'm still in a lot of pain, and ibruprofen is no longer taking the pain away. My doctor called today to check up on me, and he said he would call back in two days to see if I was doing better. Is it common for the pain to increase before it gets better?
