Good afternoon!Having placed over a thousand Mentor Xtra implants, I can assure you that patients LOVE them. They come in 2 profiles- Moderate Plus Xtra and High Profile Xtra. They do have a little more fullness, a little more firmness, and a little more projection than their corresponding Mod Plus and HP sisters, but I would not consider them less natural- it really all depends on what you have in mind as your goal look, size, proportion, etc. Best to find a good, experienced surgeon, have them measure your chest, review photos with you, and then have you try on the implant sizers. This is really the best way to determine the best implant for your body and your taste.
Thank you for your question - this comes up in the office all the time. The Mentor Xtra gel implants have more fill than the other gel implants in the Mentor inventory. It is important to partner with your surgeon to develop a surgical plan best suited to your individual goals. In my experience the most natural look is with the Mentor moderate plus profile implant. Depending on your individual body type and starting breast size, your surgeon can help guide you to the implant selection that best fit you. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery!
Hello,When silicone gel implants reappeared on the market in 2006, many women wanted to switch to them from their saline implants. At that time there was just Natrelle and Mentor, and both offered the only available model: thin shelled, underfilled with low cohesive gel. Plastic surgeons were finding that women who had saline were disappointed with their appearance after switching, with most complaining of looking smaller or saggy (referring to the upper pole of their breast). The Inspira line from Natrelle was born to address that issue by being optimally filled with gel. 7 years later, Mentor now has their version, known as Xtra. My point is if you want a bubbly upper pole, not 'natural' in my estimation, then you need Xtra. If you really want to have a soft and 'natural' look, then regular Mentor that is NOT high profile. Best of luck!
Hi J!,Both are great implants. The Xtra actually has less wrinkling, BUT still feels soft like the normal Mentor gel implants. The Xtra is great for thin patients, or on top of the muscle pockets or revisional surgery. I have been using them for 11 months with good follow up and great results. I placed about 40 pair. That said, all the mentor implants are great and I have stopped using the other implants out there, placing over 600 per year for cosmetic augmentation. So in terms of looks, you could have less wrinkling with the Xtra. See a BC/BE PS and see the video link below. Good luck, Dr. Joe
Mentor Xtra gel is slightly overfilled to yield less rippling compared to regular gel. However, rippling is not often an issue unless the implant is placed over the muscle, in a very thin patient, or in revision surgery. Therefore, the Xtra volume isn't often necessary. In regards to what appears natural looking, this is more related to the implant profile as opposed to whether it is regular versus Xtra fill. Moderate Plus Profile implants generally yeld more natural appearing results while High Profile implants tend to look more round and less natural.
