Burning sensation, 7 weeks after explant. Is this normal?

Nerve regeneration can often create weird sensations. Nerves grow back in 3 stages:1. Pain (tingling/ electrical pulse type sensation) 2. Temperature sensations: hot/cold 3. Sensations of touchThis is completely normal and can take 18-24 months to resolve.

It is common to have nerve sensitivity for up to 18 months after explantation surgery. Some patients will have sharp electrical like prickling pain that can be decreased with non-steroidal anti-imflammatory agents such as advil and motrin. Hopefully the pain will be decreased in the near future.

Burning pain after any surgery is typically nerve pain. As the nerves regrow and establish connections, burning pains, occasional sharp pain, and itching are common. Also you may have pulled something or strained something when you lifted your son. I would recommend that you rest and relax over the weekend. You could also take Ibuprofen and ice the area intermittently to decrease any swelling present. 

Burning sensation is related to your nerves. You are healing from surgery and the nerves were impacted during your procedure. This pain should subside as healing continues. Contact your surgeon if it does not.

Did you get a lift with you explant? Did you have capsulectomy with your explant? Both of these maneuvers may lead to cutting of sensory nerves that are growing back. This usually happens after 6 weeks.

 This is usually due to mold biotoxins in my experience with several thousand explants. Treatment is the appropriate antifungals involving usually several courses.   Other less common possibilities are nerve injury and bacterial infection.
