Thank you for your question. After explantation, and depending on the presence of any drains, it is best to buy a snug-fitting sports bra or a similar compressive garment to help prevent a fluid collection from developing in your breasts. It is helpful if your bra has a front closure or zipper to make dressing changes easier. Hope this helps
This question is best answered by your surgeon as she/he is most familiar with the details of your upcoming surgery. Typically patients will go home with bandages and the compression wrap. Compression will be worn for about two weeks post op. I encourage you to closely follow your surgeon's post op instructions for optimal results.
I would consult with your PS as everyone has different preferences. Some surgeons advise bras, some not and some use dressings and some not.
There is no one best bra support after explant but in general we recommend a front closure underwire type sport bra (Victoria Secret makes one). Most explants benefit from a lift so after a lift surgery I recommend underwire sports bra so the breasts heal in an uplifted "perky" position. Best of luck to you
I used to use a compression bra post implant removal but found that no compression helped the breasts contract back up more naturally. You should consult with your plastic surgeon and he will give you a recommendation based on his technique and post op care.
Most surgeons will probably will probably place you in a compression type of sports bra for up to one month. many surgeons will suggest what type of bra, so you might want to call your surgeon's office.
There is no “standard” when it comes to the use of specific bras or garments after breast surgery. In other words, different plastic surgeons may have different practices when it comes to postoperative dressings/bras. In my practice, patients wake up with a surgical bra in place. This surgical bra, although not attractive, is supportive and used for about one month after surgery (some of my patients have been known to burn the bra ASAP). Then, patients transition to a soft sports bra. Wired bras are used when breast implants have reached their “final position” and patients have full sensation along the breast skin. Generally, the longer I have been in practice, the more I appreciate the use of supportive bras after breast surgery. Patience is definitely indicated after removal of breast implants; it will take many months for the skin to “bounce back” and for you to see the final appearance of the breasts. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.
I recommend my patients wear a good tight cotton sports bra. Compression is what is needed in the early healing stage. Front hook or zipper in the front makes dressing changes easier.
It is not so much your age but the shape of your breasts and amount of breast tissue you have that dictates the result. The link below includes a number of patients with removal in patients over 50 without lift.
Typically implant removal is not covered by health insurance so it's a benefit to you that it is. You may want to start with your insurance carrier for a list of surgeons who take your insurance. The other way is to call board certified plastic surgeons near you to ask if they accept your...
When you remove the implants the skin will retract to some degree. That is enough for some patients and they do not want to undergo a lift. If you were borderline for a lift prior to your augmentation you will be the same as before at best, but likely have more ptosis now. If you are wanting...
