3/16/16 tummy tuck 5/20/17 I&D fluid collection 1. Will hydrochlorothiazide get rid of any additional fluid that was/might have been left behind or that recolldcted? I notice the left side of my stomach was swollen again I would turn over n bed it felt like a weight was n my stomach went to PCP for blood pressure Rx hydrochlorothiazide,the swelling has gone down 2. Why did the fluid come back 3. Will I continue to have problems with fluid collection in the same area with or without medication

Answer: Seroma Thanks for your inquiry and sorry for your struggles. Your HCTZ nor any diuretic will directly treat a fluid collection like a seroma. It is best to see your plastic surgeon because without an exam it is hard to advise. I hope for a speedy recovery.

Answer: Diuretics for Seroma Treatment? The answers to your questions: 1) No. 2) Could be any number of reasons. 3) Possibly. I would admonish you to see your plastic surgeon ASAP to treat what seems to be a recurring seroma. An untreated seroma can have a long-term effect on how your tummy tuck heals. You should not take diuretics for any purpose other than that for which they are prescribed. I have never heard of diuretics being prescribed for a seroma. Depending on the amount of fluid, either your plastic surgeon can drain it in the office or s/he may send you to an Interventional Radiologist to have a drain placed. Another alternative is for your plastic surgeon to take you back to the operating room to see if there is some underlying anatomical reason for your recurring seroma. All the best.
