Can you drink while on Accutane?

I am about to begin my Accutane course and was wondering how important it is not to drink. Summer break is coming up and that is when I tend to drink a fair amount. I have had several friends who have been on Accutane that drank throughout their entire course. I also rarely drink, its mainly during summer time since I am focusing on school during the fall/spring.

Accutane is a medication that is processed through the liver. Alcohol is also processed through the liver. If they are being processed together there is a potential to cause permanent liver damage that could be identified through blood work, as well as kidneyside effects. A drink occasionally is usually ok, but excessive drinking canlead to more substantial problems.

Drinking too much is, by itself, probably not a wise life choice.Drinking with Accutane is even a worse choice as it, as well as other medications, affect your liver.My strong advice would be to hold on the alcohol when on Accutane.
