I had a face lift four months ago and am generally pleased; but I have a significant lump below each cheekbone that is very obvious when I smile. It isn't tender, but is very firm and hasn't improved with regular massage for several months. Is this permanent?
Answer: Significant bump for months after a facelift should be checked by your surgeon. At four months there may indeed be some persistent swelling but a noticeable lump would be on anticipated. This is something that should be shown to your surgeon.

Answer: Facelift Lumps Bhtyoung - it is unlikely that these lumps will be permanent, but it remains too early to tell. Lumps such as these can arise from any number of reasons including, normal swelling and scar formation, sutures used to perform suspension during the lift, fat grafting if this was done at the same time, resolving blood from a hematoma, and even infection - to name a few. I would agree with continued massage and patience. I would also discuss this with your surgeon - they will know what what done and what the culprit may be. Based on their assessment they can determine if something like a steroid injection would be beneficial or if this will simply resolve with time. Stay optimistic and enjoy your rejuvenated face!

Answer: Facelift lumps Dear bhtyoung:Thanks for sharing your photos. Most of the time, scar production peaks in thickness, lumpiness, swelling, redness and irregularity in 12 weeks (3 months) and has subsided by 6 months. Another 6 months or more of scar remodeling occurs to breakdown the thick, lumpy scar into the smooth, thin sheet or line scar we desire. It is best to direct this question to your surgeon. If he used dissolving sutures, this will flatten in time. If this is another issue, he / she may address it differently. Since it appears to be similar on both sides of your cheek, it is my impression that this is the knot of the suture for your SMAS lift and like mine, will dissolve and flatten.Massage and patience will help. All the best!

Answer: Lumps It is not unusual to have irregularities following a facelift. It can take 6-12 months for this to improve and massage is generally the best thing. There are lymphatic massage tools that can also help. It would be rare for this to be permanent. Occasionally fat transfer or fillers may be employed but this is likely to settle without further intervention. Keep in touch with your PS who is best to advise you.
