Thank you for the detailed question. Patients with a BMI of 30 or lower are eligible for liposuction and BBL. If your BMI is over 30, you must lose weight until you reach the required BMI to be an eligible candidate for any cosmetic surgical procedure. For more information, please visit our webpage.
Hello, thanks for your question and provided information. Yes, you need to have your BMI less than 32 to have liposuction and bbl, it will be safer for you and you will get optimal and better results. Advantages:One treatment may be all you need to reshape problem areasTreat more areas—and larger areas—in one procedureMay be performed with either local or general anesthesiaMore consistent and predictable result than noninvasive treatmentsLiposuction, sometimes referred to as "lipo" by patients, slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion.Different areas of treatment:ThighsHips and buttocksAbdomen and waistUpper armsBackInner kneeChest areaCheeks, chin and neckCalves and anklesLiposuction can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a facelift, breast reduction or a tummy tuck. What liposuction can do?Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite—the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks—or loose saggy skin.
Ideal candidates are at a stable weight, in good health , and have excess fat in some parts of the body and too little in other regions. Gaining weight before the procedure is to no advantage and when you lose weight again the fat cells will shrink just like the donor site fat cells. Typically, the transferred fat results in a significant increase in volume of the body site being treated.
Weighing approximately 300 pounds places you in a BMI range that increases risks of complications during and after surgery. Reaching your weight goal for a BMI of 30 and maintaining that weight for several months will enhance the results of the BBL.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Congratulations at feeling good about yourself at 300 lbs, and apparently you just want to move some of the fat around.Unfortunately, statistically it has been shown that when your BMI is over 30, you have a much greater chance of complications. A female 300 lbs is very likely to get post surgical hematomas and seromas after liposuction. This can lead to infection, skin loss, and what one would have to call a "real hot mess".Apparently, your self esteem and desire to look better has not been suppressed by your 300 lb body. However, for very important scientific and technical reasons, it is best to lose weight either by diet and exercise, or by gastric bypass surgery. At this point, I think you need to explore your pre BBL options to include talking to one or more doctors who do bariatric surgery.
Yes, I would suggest first doing bariatric surgery to lose weight and once you are at a normal BMI your procedure would be much more effective.
Dear nubody33,Congrats on the weight loss! Generally speaking, you want to reach your goal weight before you consider a surgery, otherwise your results will be suboptimal if you continue to lose weight after the surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Weighting 300 lbs increase the risk of complications during and after your surgery, the BMI range is 30 and it is important have a stable weight in order to have any surgical process. I recommend you maintain your weight in a healthy range and then consider the surgery, you will achieve amazing results. Also you can make an appointment with a board plastic surgeon for a good evaluation and to talk about your goals.Good luck.-
If your BMI is very high, then it is likely not a good idea to undergo liposuction. Liposuction can help decrease the overall volume in specific areas but at your weight it is probably too high.
Thank you for your question. We typically want patients at a BMI around 30-35 to minimize risks of surgery and to optimize the result. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon to see if your procedure could safely be done at a higher BMI if you want to stay thick. Good luck.
