Is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia a risk with non-suction cryolipolysis?

PAH can occur if the fat is inadequately treated. The original applicators of cool sculpting uses more suction than the current applicators and there was more incidences of PAH with the old applicators compared to the new flat applicators which have stronger and more consistent cooling but less suction (We have not had any PAH since switching to the new applicators in our practice). Most of the PAH we see in our practice now are people who have had cryolipolysis elsewhere and come to us for correction. Almost all the PAH we see are from either the old Coolsculpting applicators or from imitation devices that are not even FDA cleared. Not sure what the Cryo21 is but if you are concerned about PAH, I would advise you to stick with the tried and true Coolsculpting with the new applicators.

CoolSciulpting is the most studied, most effective form of cryolipolysis. Within the CoolSculpting applicator choices, there is only one non-suction applicator, the CoolSmooth applicator. There have been a few case reports of PAH with the CoolSmooth. With over 10 million treatments world wide, the instances of PAH across all applicators is very low but occurrences with the CoolSmooth applicator is very rare.
