Answer: Horse Chestnut Extract and Bioflavonoids I disagree with the physician who states that horse chestnut and Diosmin are ineffective - he is misinformed about the way they work. Horse chestnut treats venous insufficiency and it is this underlying cause that increase venous hypertensions, which indirectly reduces the likelihood of forming varicose veins, reticular veins and spider veins. I have written books on these neutraceuticals and believe them to be helpful adjuncts in those that believe in prevention - prevention of symptoms associated with venous insufficiency and perhaps, reducing venous hypertension and by that extension of logic, reduce the likelihood of developing new vein problems. I do agree, however, that they DO NOT remove or get rid of existing veins. Read these ebooks on the links provided below.

Answer: Horse chestnut does not work. There are many natural or alternative treatments for spider and blue veins but none of them work well. Other alternatives such as escin, diosmin, and various kinds of berries have all been offered as a way to reduce or prevent veins but none of them have been successful. Vein formation can be due to many factors including genetics, aging, trauma, sun exposure, pregnancies and, most importantly , malfunctioning valves in the saphenous system of veins. The best treatment for spider and blue veins would be sclerotherapy. You should see a vein specialist for a full vein evaluation.
