Excess skin around neck - Would a neck lift be beneficial? (Photos)

Question

I'm M 5'6 135 pounds but for whatever reason I've always carried a lot of excess skin on and around my neck which leads to my side profile looking really under defined. I can pinch away over an inch of skin from every place on my neck and I cannot do that for any other part of my body. I also have a short chin which makes my side profile even worse. I've been considering looking into surgery to cause more of a distinction between my jawline and neck but am unsure if I should go for more of a neck treatment or jaw treatment

The photographs are rather limited, but it does appear that you have a recessive mandible for which a chin implant can improve. You probably have small amount of genetic fat underneath your chin that can be removed with liposuction. Both of these procedures can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

Based on these photos it is very likely that chin augmentation is mayor component of neck/jaw correction. It is quite possible that intervention on the neck by means of liposuction or anterior neck may contribute to improvement. Hi DorianA7, thank you for your question. What you describe, an inch of pinchable neck skin at a healthy weight plus a shorter chin, is a structural pattern I see often. The jawline you see in profile is the product of three things: the quantity of skin, the deeper neck muscles and fat, and the skeletal support from the chin. If skin excess is genuinely the main issue, a neck lift addresses it directly; liposuction alone would not help a neck with little fat. Improving chin projection, with an implant or genioplasty, can sharpen the neck angle further and sometimes changes what the neck surgery needs to achieve. In younger patients with good skin elasticity, deep neck contouring combined with chin support can give a strong result with less surgery. The right combination depends on an in-person examination of your skin elasticity, hyoid position and chin. I would see a facial specialist who can assess all three together, rather than choosing a single treatment from a menu.
