Would having your menstrual cycle during surgery be a problem?

Good morning. Thanks for your question. No, if your hemoglobin levels at the moment of the procedure are completely fine, it will not be a significant problem, I suggest you to take iron to increase your hemoglobin, because with the period, the hemoglobin can drop. 

Thanks for an excellent question.  First, having your period in itself is not a big issue.  if you run low normal with your hemoglobin and you have major blood loss during surgery then this could be significant.  Please discuss with your surgeon your anticipated blood loss and where your blood counts are now, if you are concerned.  Good Luck.  

Menstruation during the time of surgery is not an issue.  In general, for many surgeries there is minimal blood loss.  Discuss with your surgeon what is expected for the procedures you have planned.  If there are concerns about your blood count, pre operative labs can be done to ensure your blood counts are in a healthy range for surgery.
