I wasn't sure what they were, so I looked into it and I have them. I found a website talking about surgery to fix it that said herniated areolas are weak. What does this mean? I mean, should I be gentle with them? I never knew this sort of thing existed so excuse any odd questions.

Sometimes, one or both nipples can be inverted. They are tethered by the breast ducts so they don't stick out. A photo would be useful. If it is an inverted nipple, it can be fixed by a simple in office procedure.
