My hemoglobin is 9.4 I need at least 11 for surgery.
Answer: Will taking iron pills and floradix raise my hemoglobin enough in 5 days? Your PS, PCP, and hematologist are in a better position to evaluate this for you and can recommend an appropriate regimen based upon the cause for the anemia. Taking iron pills 3 X a day and floradix should likely increase the hemoglobin levels if you had been following this treatment for several months; five days will not be long enough. Ask your PS if he/she recommends that you postpone your lipo until your hemoglobin reaches a satisfactory level. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Hemoglobin response in 5 days A rise in hemoglobin typically take 8-12 weeks to occur. Understand that the 11 requirement is for your own safety and no elective surgery is worth taking unnecessary risks. Keep taking your iron and try to be patient.

Answer: Will taking iron pills and floradix raise my hemoglobin enough in 5 days? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. You probably won´t have sufficient time to raise your hemoglobin high enough for surgery, and right now you are anemic. Please follow up close with your plastic surgeon about this issue. Good luck :)

Answer: Hemoglobin If your hematocrit is low, oral medications will not produce a sufficient improvement in five days. Recently, we have had to delay two cases for this reason. It can take well over a month for adequate improvement. An important consideration is the reason for the blood value-ie, internal bleeding, personal norm, uterine fibroids, etc. if any medical conditions are involved, they should be treated and a hematologist consulted for medical clearance. Best wishes.
