Dynamic nasal valve collapse - could absorbable materials be a long-term solution?

Hi, I had my primary rhinoplasty 2,5 years ago and a few months ago I started developing breathing problems. Currently my nasal walls collapse in when i take a deep breath. My original surgeon said that cartilage crafts would widen my nose, and instead, suggested adding a PDS plate over upper lateral cartilages to provide support combined with a PDS suspension suture. I am concerned because I could not find experiences of a procedure like this, and these materials are absorbable so I am not sure if this would be a long-term solution. My surgeon said they would produce scar tissue when they reabsorb and this would stiffen the nasal walls. Still, I am unsure if I should go through with this operation.

Without in person evaluation or at least good series of photos, it is difficult to give you sound advice. In general,  correction with cartilage grafts ( from nose septum or a rib) is the best way to correct deformity permanently. Properly selected and placed grafts should not increase the width of the nose. I hope this helps. Good luck.

The problem with absorbable material, is that when it absorbs the product is gone, and you are left with what you started with. There are many absorbable plates that are used in rhinoplasty, however, they are associated with problems, and I do not believe that they last forever. Well performed cartilage grafting should not lead to a wider nasal appearance. Please consider meeting with a reputable rhinoplasty specialist with many favorable before and after photos in his Gallery, along with many favorable online consumer reviews. I hope this helps. Hello and thank you for your question. There are much better techniques such as spreader grafts for this situation. This can be designed not to widen your nose, but improve your breathing. I would not use PDS absorbable plate.. With good surgical technique, you could likely have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
