After the age of 21 I've noticed my right side of my face looks either puffier on the cheek than my right. My right eye brow's hair doesn't shape the same as my left. And when I smile my gums appear too far from my teeth along with how my teeth is heavily shifted rather than centered. And my nose isn't aligned properly with the symmetry of my face. I've always avoided pictures, smiling or anything in that nature because it makes me look ugly. Can anyone help?
Answer: Facial symmetry Thanks for your questions man- Starting out- nobody is really symmetrical. I tell my patients we need to be aware of symmetry, but perfect mirror images of our face is likely unrealistic. Once, we've established that, we can start to identify what bothers you then make progress from there.I hope this helps and God Bless!Dr. Robb

Answer: My nose is asymmetrical, can it be fixed? Hello,Thanks for your question. You have discovered that your face is naturally asymmetric. There are procedures that might be necessary to improve your symmetry, but true symmetry isn't really achievable. I would recommend that you consult with a facial plastic surgery specialist to be examined and photographed to discuss your options.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty. Your surgeon can accomplish this by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. This can also be designed to improve your asymmetry. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: My nose is asymmetrical, can it be fixed? Most patients have some degree of asymmetry of their face. The areas of your nose that concern you can be realistically improved with an artistically performed rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do based on two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best surgery. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: My nose is asymmetrical, can it be fixed? As you have recognized, you have asymmetry throughout your face, including your nose. Everyone has some degree of asymmetry in their face, which is more noticeable in some people. Improving the appearance of a deviated, asymmetric nose is a common request of many patients seeking nasal surgery. The improvements you seek regarding your nose can be achieved with a rhinoplasty. You may also benefit from further refinement to improve symmetry in the remainder of your face. I would recommend an in-person consultation so that a surgeon can thoroughly examine the inside and outside of your nose from different angles, feel the tissues, better understand your goals, and make more specific recommendations to achieve the natural look your desire.
