I've been diligent about wearing my garment and for the last week or so I've not wearing it as much and either wearing spanx shorts or just underwear. I've noticed now that I'm a bit achy, the incision area is fairly sensitive and there has been some minor pain after "weening" myself off of the compression garment. Do these symptoms mean I should still wear it 24:7 or is this just normal?
Answer: Comprehensive Preparation for a Lower Body Lift Procedure Congratulations on your remarkable achievement of losing 120 pounds and your decision to undergo a 360 circumferential lower body lift. Preparing for such a transformative procedure is a significant step, and it's important to approach it with thorough preparation. Consultations with Specialist Surgeons: Begin by consulting with plastic surgeons who have expertise in reconstructive surgery following massive weight loss. Given the specialized nature of lower body lifts and the high demand for skilled surgeons, start your consultations early to secure a surgery date in your desired timeframe. Stable Weight: Your current weight stability is a good indicator that you're ready for the surgery. Maintain this stability leading up to the procedure. Nutrition and Hydration: Increase your protein intake to about 100 grams per day, starting two weeks before the surgery. Consistent hydration is also crucial. Medical Clearances and Tests: Schedule a visit with your primary doctor for clearance, and complete necessary tests like blood work, an EKG, and a chest x-ray. Depending on your age and health, additional tests such as a cardiac stress test or a carotid duplex may be advised. Post-Surgery Essentials: Electric Recliner: Aids in transitioning from sitting to standing with ease. Walker: For support and mobility during recovery. Alligator Tongs: To pick up items without bending. Protein Drinks: Stock up for at least 2-3 weeks post-surgery. Accessible Bedroom: Ensure your bedroom is on a single level, free from steps. Car Seat Cover: A plastic bag for the car seat can facilitate easier transitions during your ride home. Scar Care Products: Invest in silicone cream and scar treatment for optimal healing. Surgeon’s Specific Instructions: Adhere to any additional guidelines or recommendations provided by your chosen plastic surgeon. This comprehensive plan is designed to ensure you are physically, mentally, and logistically prepared for your lower body lift surgery. I hope this information assists you in your preparation and contributes to a smooth and successful surgical experience. Good luck, and feel free to reach out for any further guidance or questions. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Garment after body lift surgery Many of my patient who have body lift surgery continue to swell up for 3 to 6 months after their surgery. Please appreciate that the lower body lift is a big surgery and thus requires longer healing and recovery. Most patient's will have significant reduction in their swelling at about 3 months. But as they do more and start exercising, they will swell up again. The garment helps with keeping the swelling minimal as you resume your daily activities. I tell my patients to use it for as long as they can. I know most of them use it for several months. Best of luck.

Answer: Compression garmet after body lift Thank you for your question! I would recommend continuing to wear your compression garment at this point, if it provides comfort. It is not uncommon to wear the compression at this point following a body lift. Best of luck to you!
