Thank you for your question. With a history of keloid scars, there is certainly a chance of your ear piercing forming a keloid scar; however, there is also a chance that it will not. I recommend following up with a plastic surgeon if you notice the piercing start to keloid to begin scar treatment.
If you have a history of keloids then it is possible that you may develop keloids from having your ears pierced. There is also a chance that you will have normal healing. There are certain areas of the body that are more prone to problematic scarring. If you choose to have them pierced it is best that you discuss your history with the physician performing the piercing and have regular follow up visits during healing to check for signs of keloid development.
Good Afternoon! If you're prone to keloids, a piercing may lead to the creation of one. It doesn't mean that you can't pierce your ears, though. It will be important to have close follow-up after your piercing to ensure no keloid formation. If some are seen, steroid injections can be placed which help. And, if they worsen, compression devices may be needed with removal of the piercing. Hope this helps you!
