Will non ablative fractional laser resurfacing eliminate the malar bags still present after my lower blepharoplasty? (photo)

Question

After 5 weeks post-op lower blepharoplasty I still have the festoons or malar bags that I started with. They look exactly as they did before surgery. Will non ablative fractional laser resurfacing help with this? If not, what can I do to finally eliminate this problem? I am not happy with my results at all. The first photo is pre surgery. The others are post.

Thank you for your question.You are still very swollen.  I would give this at least 6 months to settle down before making any big decisions about future procedures.To be sure, return to see your surgeon or see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.I hope this helps.

At 5 weeks postoperatively, I would expect some swelling to still be present. After the swelling resolves, your surgeon will be able to assess whether the bags are the result of some excess skin remaining, or the result of fat pads around the eye being too prominent. If the cause is excess skin, fractional laser treatment will help this. If the fat protecting your eye is simply to prominent, however, then the only treatment is surgical removal of the fat.I would recommend following with your surgeon closely to develop a plan. I think this is quite an easy solution, however the treatment will involve fully ablative laser (I like erbium), coupled with CO2 Fractional. If need at the end, filler will enhance volume, esp tear trough areas. Have a look at my before and afters - eyes and you will get an idea of what is ideal.I think using non ablative fractional laser is a waste of time - its is great for texture, but not for festoons and bags.
