I have always wanted a nose job and had a consultation last year however it wasn't good timing. I am now 5 months pregnant and will need to postpone it further. I was wondering how long I should wait after baby is born to have one? Thanks
Answer: Rhinoplasty Timing Thanks for your question and congratulations on your upcoming arrival. This question depends on a number of factors and might not be something that you want to settle on until after the baby arrives. It's important to consider the recovery time needed after a rhinoplasty to ensure that you heal properly and get the best result possible. If you have someone to help you care for the baby, this will make proceeding with a rhinoplasty easier. I recommend waiting until after the baby is born and you settle into your new routine to pursue any type of elective procedure like a rhinoplasty. Best of luck!

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. I recommend waiting 6 months until after the birth of your child before having rhinoplasty. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Rhinoplasty and pregnancy The advice of my anaesthetist is to wait about a month until after your baby is born to give enough time for your body changes related to pregnancy to settle. Otherwise there will be increased risks from general anaesthetic related to blood pressure and bleeding. It will be very exciting for you too after your baby is born and sometimes this can be associated with emotional changes. All things considered I would suggest not having surgery for about 6 months after giving birth.

Answer: Rhinoplasty after Childbirth Dear CourtneyA95, It would really depend on the amount of time that you plan to breast feed as you will be taking medication before and after your surgery as well as the anesthesia which would not be recommended during breastfeeding. Speak with your OBGYN and they will give you a release date. Generally speaking six months post surgery is adequate time. Please be aware that babies can often have flailing arms and tossing of toys that should be avoided post surgery. Congratulations on your upcoming birth. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
