Can filler come out of a burst lip?

Sorry if this is a gross question but I’m worried and my clinic isn’t open til Monday. I have a cold sore on my lip which cracked and opened when I was talking earlier. I could feel and see it leaking some clear liquid (it wasn’t thick) right after so not sure if this is normal (like something from a blister) of if it’s filler coming out. I’ve had the filler a few months so it is settled but my lip is swollen due to the cold sore so its hard to tell if I’ve lost filler. Could it have happened?

You should start out with 1cc of juvederm filler or restylane filler and go from there. You do not want to overdo too much filler in the lips. It also depends on the look you are going for too. You can always add more filler to the lips if needed. Just remember if you are going to do your lips and you do not want to bruise you should not take any aspirins or anything that will thin the blood since brusing can occur. One syringe is typically $600.

Thank you for your question. It is not possible for a hyaluronic acid filler to leak from a cold sore. It is normal for fluid to come from a cold sore. If you are still concern please follow up with your physician for an evaluation. Best of Luck!

Fillers can not leak out of a lip cold sore. The cold sore blisters are very superficial. The filler is deeply dispersed in the lip tissues and can only be removed by dissolving it.

It would not be possible for a hyaluronic acid filler to leak from a superficial herpetic lesion at any time.  The fluid that you have seen is the normal exudate from a cold sore.  The lesion that you have now is not likely to be caused by the injection as it was performed months ago but be sure to always have a preventative dose of an antiviral drug, acyclovir or valcyclovir, when you have any treatments done on your face.   Cold sores may follow any traumatic procedure on the face.
