Transplanted hair falling out after 3 weeks, will it grow back?

Hello, Thank you for your question. It is totally normal to lose transplanted grafts after first month. This is what we named as shock hair loss after transplantation. Your hairs will grow in 6-8 months. You will see your full result 1 year after transplantation. Please keep continue to follow the instructions what your doctor said.

It is normal to lose transplanted hairs weeks after surgery.  It may take 6 to 12 months to see new hairs grow out.   After 2 to 3 weeks almost all your scabs should be gone.  If you still have considerable scabbing contact your doctor for a better washing regimen. 

This is a good question that we get a lot in our practice. The loss of transplanted hair after follicular unit transplantation is common and termed Telegen Effluvium. It usually occurs in the 2nd or 3rd month after surgery and can be concerning, but rest assured it is normal. It can also occur sooner as in your situation.  You are still early in your recovery after your hair transplant, and sometimes the results take 6-8 months before you have an idea of how the surgery went. best of luck

Shedding of the transplanted hair is perfectly normal after a hair transplant procedure and will occur anywhere from weeks 2 to 6 post op. Continue to follow your doctors post op care instructions and happy growing!

Transplanted graft’s hair starts to shedding in the first week of surgery and may go on untill 4-6 th weeks after surgery. İt is not surprising to lost approx.  %70-80 of all transplanted hair shafts in first month when you are washing, gently rubbing  or touching the head. İt is shock loss and not permanent. Even your native hair may affected with that post traumatic transient hair loss…New hair at transplant and donor area starts to grow at 3-4 th month after surgery .

It is normal for transplanted hair to fall out at about three or four weeks. The shock of transplanting the hair pushes the follicle into a resting phase. They begin to grow again at 3 months,

Hair shedding is very normal after transplant. Usually it occurs within the first 2nd week to the 6th week of transplant. And it has been known to occur sooner or later than the mentioned period as well. So, provided all viable hair has been implanted, you need not worry at all about the eventual result. The crust you are talking about will slowly get washed off with every head wash you do. Hair growth is a gradual process. So let the natural course take place and relax.

If you are Losing native hair 3 weeks following transplant., then I would assume that you have developed shock loss which is a loss of your native hair, see below
