I am suffering from a chronic gastrointestinal disease called Crohn's disease. currently I take a drug against: MTX. Can I do a hair transplant or must I discontinue the Medikament before the transplantation?

Answer: Methotrexate usage. Methotrexate is not a contra-indication for Hair transplant surgery. However, it some patients does cause hair loss as its side effect. Please contact your doctor to assess the need for adequate therapy with folic acid. Additionally, there are newer TNF blockers that are sometimes used with Crohn's disease and other inflammatory Bowel diseases. If you are on one of these new TNf-Blockers/ immuno-modulators it is usually advised that it be discontinued prior and just after surgery in order to reduce the chance of infection (particularly if you are doing an FUT/Strip Procedure).
