Do I have to stop taking MTX medication before having a hair transplant?

It is best to discuss your medical issues with the doctor who will be performing your surgery as each doctor has their own opinion. 

I do not advice patients to take blood thinners before HT. You might want to check one more time with your doctor. 

The only thing I recommend is that you run by with the Doctor all medications you are currently taking. You may also want to discuss with your GI doctor if you could even be off of it in the first place. Best of luck! 

Methotrexate is not a contra-indication  for Hair transplant surgery. However, it some patients does cause hair loss as its side effect. Please contact your doctor  to assess the need for adequate therapy with folic acid.  Additionally, there are newer TNF blockers that are sometimes used with Crohn's disease and other inflammatory Bowel diseases. If you are on one of these new TNf-Blockers/ immuno-modulators it is usually advised that it be discontinued prior and just after surgery in order to reduce the chance of infection (particularly if you are doing an FUT/Strip Procedure).  Please consult with your MD .
