CoolSculpting contraindications. How long to wait after tummy tuck?

Hello I have a tummy tuck and lipo scheduled for January. How long do I need to wait to cool sculpt the same area ? Also , is it contraindicated for epilepsy ? Thank you in advance.

With well performed tummy tuck and liposuction, Coolsculpting may be unnecessary. I recommend following up with your practitioner about their recommendations. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction, which can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck, depending on skin laxity. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. You shouldn’t need to have CoolSculpting after liposuction. Liposuction should remove all of the excess fat and provide some skin tightening, too. It takes about 6 months before you see your final results. If, for some reason, you want to continue removing fat from the treated areas, it is perfectly safe to do so … after the 6 months have passed. CoolSculpting is not contraindicated in patients who have epilepsy. Please find a board-certified dermatologist to perform your liposuction with the safest technique, tumescent liposculpture. This does not require general anesthesia. You should have excellent results that will eliminate the need for other treatments.

Thank you for your question! I usually recommend patients to wait about 6 months after having surgery to have Coolsculpting done. As for the epilepsy, please consult with your neurologist for their opinion.

If your surgery is scheduled for January, you may not need coolsculpting at all.  Especially since you are planning on having liposuction with your abdominoplasty.  You should speak with your plastic surgeon but I would wait 6 months after surgery, this will allow the swelling to go away entirely and truly assess if and where coolsculpting would help. As for epilepsy, there is no contraindication

Hello. After your tummy tuck + lipo procedure, I would wait until you see your full results before deciding whether or not you might need CoolSculpting®. In most instances, liposuction should be enough to achieve the slimmer body shape you’re looking for.
 
  
As for epilepsy, while it is not a contraindication to CoolSculpting, you might still want to check with your doctor first just to be sure. Hope this helps!

If you are having a tummy tuck and liposuction, you shouldn't need to have Coolsculpting in the same area. Coolsculpting is generally utilized for patients that aren't candidates for surgery or just don't want surgery for the time being.  It's always best to speak with your surgeon about healing and timing of other potential procedures or activities to make sure you don't hurt yourself, impede healing or compromise your results. Coolsculpting is not recommended in areas that have recently been treated surgically. Surgical wounds can take many months to be back to full-strength and my advice would be to speak to your surgeon after they have had a chance to review the wound at your post-operative visit. You may find that you don't even require Coolsculpting after your tummy tuck.
Having well controlled epilepsy is not a contraindication to Coolsculpting, however if your seizures are frequent or unpredictable it would be wisest to discuss your anti-epileptic therapy with your neurologist prior to any elective medical or surgical procedure.

You will most probably not need any further treatment after liposuction. If you do need further treatment, it would be best to discuss this further with your surgeon. Epilepsy is not a contra-indication to CoolSculpting treatment.

You should not need a tummy tuck, lipo AND CoolSculpting to the same area.  You may want to try CoolSculpting first to see if you actually need a procedure with anesthesia and a longer recovery time.  If there are other body contouring goals that you have such as arms or under the chin, you could have CoolSculpting there while recovering for your tummy tuck and lipo.

It is not advisable to perform CoolSculpting over and open wound, or an area where the tissue is not  completely healed. We don't usually recommend performing CoolSculpting on a surgically treated area until 8-12 months post-op. Speaking with your surgeon about evaluating the treated area may help you determine a better timeline. It may also help to wait a few months after your lipo and tummy tuck to see what areas CoolSculpting will be most effective. There are very few contraindications to CoolSculpting, and epilepsy is not one of them. Best of luck with your results!
