A little over a week ago I had lower blepharoplasty performed and the cut/incision due to volume loss causing bags under my eyes. The doctor did use fat from my face to fill under eyes. My concern is the placement of the incisions. First off, they are not in the same place on each eye and the cuts are way below my lash line! I am using scar cream and massaging but obviously there will always be scares under my eyes ! I'm very concerned about this! Help.

Answer: Scars below lashline When there is an excess amount of skin in the lower lids, it is necessary to remove a conservative skin pinch for best results. While surgical textbooks recommend placing the incisions 2 to 3 millimeters below the lashes, I find that to be too low for the ideal cosmetic result because then the scar is visible long term and difficult to conceal. I typically place the incision just below the lashes so that the actual lashes will camouflage the incision. I treat this delicate skin extremely gently with very low cautery to avoid damage to lash follicles or to the very important closing eyelid muscle. While it is possible that you may need scar revision, it is too early to tell at one week. You should bring up these concerns with your surgeon. Best wishes.

Answer: Lower eyelid incision You have what is called a subciliary incision which is very common. Now it is possible that the incision was made lower than some surgeons use but should still heal well with time and most likely not be noticeable. The result from eyelid surgery is a long process taking months to reach your final result. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon closely.
