Don't focus on the number focus on results. Unless your doctor told you to have 1500 grafts and you woke up with 3300 grafts. Something doesn't sound right (or add up).
FUT or strip technique can give high number of grafts. For example, a strip size of 25cm X 1.4 cm would have a total of 3500 donor grafts assuming a density of 100 FU / square cm. Of course if the density goes down to 40/cm2, the yield comes down to 1400 grafts. This figure should then be adjusted according to follicular wastage that occurs at the time of dissection. It may be as low as 2% in experienced hand but can go very high with novice technicians. At the end, there is no definite answer to upper or lower limit. It depends upon a patients personal characteristics like skin laxity and density along the expertise of treating team.
Yield depends on many factors such as your density and donor area size. Also, does the team cut grafts down or not. This is something that can only be answered in detail after a consult with your physician.
Strip surgery is the most efficient surgery. FUE surgery takes out every 4-5th follicular group while strip surgery stays in the middle of the donor area and has been proven safe. Of course there are doctors who push FUE to higher numbers taking out more follicular unit than every 4th and they also, to achieve the numbers, go outside the permanent zone. I have done strip surgeries in excess of 5,000 grafts as has many other doctors. FUE in that range brings on problems. See the video below as well as an extensive article I wrote on FUE vs Strip surgery
Your donor area can yield up to 7000 total grafts in your lifetime. 3300 grafts in one session is a very good number. I have not done more in one session. There are some surgeons who have done over 6000 grafts in one session.
Transplanted hairs act like normal hair. If someone has hair loss from chemotherapy, the transplanted hairs will also go. The good news is that hairs usually grow back when the treatment is complete. This may take over a year. However, most of the time it does not grow back to...
Once the hairs are in, it is very difficult to take out and re-implant even with the FUE method. Any attempt to remove the implanted hairs with FUE will leave scarring. It can also result in transection and a waste of the hair follicle (no growth). You may look worse trying to...
Extreme depression is another reason why you should not consider hair transplants from a cadaver. The risk may be more depression. Perhaps seeing a psychiatrist may help you cope with the depression.
You pulled out your own follicles after surgery.. on purpose? It may not grow back. Only time will tell. It is always a good idea to follow up with your doctor.
No rule on how many single hair grafts are needed for creating a hair line. It can vary by doctor as well as patients (some who have narrow head to wide head). It can range from 100 to 500 grafts. There is no rule on rows either. Some doctors free hand this approach (me)....
Dear SpgelloThanks for the question. Your grafts become solidified (safe) during the 3-6th day after hair transplant. If you don´t harm or damage your scabs during that time, your grafts will be safe. You can start wearing a cap and put it on with caution already 1,2 days after hair transplant. ...
