I’m one week post op now and was told to not lift anything bigger than 5 pounds for the first month. During my first few days after surgery, the most I lifted was probably 8 pounds and I don’t know if that is too much. I also only stayed in bed the first couple days, after that I started going on little walks but I’m not sure if it was too soon for that. How likely am I to develop internal bleeding? There was a couple times I would feel a pulled muscle in my left boob but then the pain went away

Answer: Lifting Thank you for your questions. Each surgeon will have their own post surgical protocol to follow. Typically I tell my patients no heavy lifting over 10lbs for the first month and no exercising as well for one month. Enjoyable walking is typically okay as long as you are not carrying any weights and going up hill a lot. I would suggest following your surgeons recommendations and taking it from there.

Answer: Lifting Lifting restrictions will vary by surgeon. Typically you do not want to lift any more than 10 pounds for the first 4-6 weeks after surgery to allow the breasts time to heal. Activity should be increased gradually, but certainly you want to be up and moving around at least a handful of times per day the first few days, while gradually increasing it back to your normal activity level. I encourage you to discuss your questions with your surgeon as he/she is most familiar with your surgical plan and how you've been progressing through recovery.
