I received some fillers this past Saturday on my vermillion border, will this smooth out? (photos)

Vermillion line stiffness and ridges are too noticeable .. it’s only been 5 days but I notice the ridges on the top lip that look like \ / (if that makes any sense . My question is .. will this smooth out in a few days or weeks since no product was injected in the red area? And also the hardness of the line - will that subside as well..

osorio417. Swelling after this procedure is quite common for 7-10 days.  If it persists after that time period, check with your injector. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist.

Hi and thank you for your question! It might take up to two weeks for the swelling to completely go away following filler injection, but in most patient, we expect to see improvement from day 2-3 and from there it is expected to gradually get better. In your case, if you are not seeing any improvements or you notice additional signs such as pain and tenderness, heat or fluctuation, then you should do a follow up with your physician right away. Otherwise and if the swelling is improving, then you can wait for two weeks period and then do the follow up if needed. I hope it helps and good luck!

It appears that the swelling you're experiencing is normal.  I always advise patients to wait a full 14 days before being concerned about any swelling post dermal fillers-particularly in the lip.  If this does not resolve, I'd advise you to return to your injector for an in person assessment.Best,Ariel Ostad MD PC

Fillers take a few days to 2 weeks to fully settle depending on the individual, type of filler placed, amount of filler placed, and technique. I would continue to monitor the area and communicate with your injector to see if massaging is recommended. Should lips continue to look too full for your taste at the end of two weeks, it can be tapered back with hyaluronidase if the filler used belongs to the hyaluronic acid (HA) family.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photographs.  Swelling is common after treatment with filler, especially when the lips are injected.  Swelling can often cause the appearance of asymmetry or unwanted fullness.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow normal postprocedure swelling to fully resolve and to see your final result.  If you continue to have any concerns at 2 weeks (final result), please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation in order to determine the best course of action.  Most patients end up being happy with their final result.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

Lip fillers in the vermilion border can provide a beautiful outward curl lip definition without adding volume.  New HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers like Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Refyne are perfect for that very purpose.  There are different injection techniques and the results vary depending on the look you desire.  I talk more about it in my video below.   Results typically last a year or longer.   But,  your probably want to get a refresher injection about half way through.  Also,  expect substantial swelling for up to 5 days post injection.   Your results will come through in just a bit.   The wait is worth it! Good luck! It can take up to 2 weeks for any swelling to subside and for the filler itself to fully integrate and settle into the tissue. Filler will also travel along the vermillion border from the injection site and is usually evened out with massage during the procedure so it is likely there is some product where you indicate even if the area itself was not directly injected. If you are concerned you should make an appointment with your treating clinician.

It can take 1-2 weeks for the swelling to come down. If you feel the white roll is a bit too full, you should talk to your injector.  Perhaps the injector might suggest gently massage of the area.
