Is the BBL procedure in United States and Columbia done the same way?

One of the most important decisions a patient must make is the selection of the best plastic surgeon to perform the liposuction procedure. Beyond this, the final result is largely the result of adherence to postoperative protocols to prevent complications that can largely be avoided.Do not worry about what methods are employed. Although there are certainly technical aspects to the surgery, this is difficult to evaluate as a patient.  I would look for a surgeon with many before and after pictures that you like and who has great reviews with pictures that you like.  There will not be a consensus among plastic surgeons on what may be best, because the results for the procedure are so variable.  I perform the fat transfer and BBL procedures with the subdermal transfer method. Some of the technical maneuvers I use are injecting the fat under the skin and not into the deep muscle, using cannulae larger than 4mm and not pointing the injection cannula downwards.

BBL is mostly surgeon dependent procedure. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

LIposuction and fat transfer techniques vary from surgeon to surgeon, not from country to country. Each surgeon has a certain process for handling and injection the fat, generally about two-thirds of the fat will survive over time and buttock can feel firm for the first few weeks.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

BBL in general means liposuction of abdomen, flanks and lower back and fat transfer for augmentation and shaping of buttocks/hips. Result of surgery, in general, depends of experience of the surgeon rather than country where it is done. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good experience in this procedure is recommended. Good luck.

The BBL procedure might be done the exact same by two surgeons in different parts of the world and might be done completely different by two surgeons who work in the same practice together. It is surgeon specific. The results obtained are dependent on the patient, the technique, and the anatomy. Of course it is only speculation what the actual difference between the procedures if your two friends are, but the softness might actually give a clue that the two surgeons have chosen different approaches. First of all , there certainly is no difference how the procedure is done in different nations. This is entirely a product of the individual experience and skill of the “hopefully” Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. However it seems that the colleague that produced the softer butt, unless the physical build of your friends is entirely different, has chosen to place the fat into the gluteal muscle. This practice produces very nice results but has because of its significantly higher risk largely been left. The injection of fat into the muscle lets the muscle swell like you live in the gym doing squats where the subcutaneous fat remains soft. This however makes a so called fat embolism much more likely because there are numerous large blood vessels that can accidentally be injected with fat and than often cause a fatal complication called fat embolism. The guidelines have changed in regards that the surgeon should avoid the muscle and inject the fat into the subcutaneous fat. This leaves a lot less space and as you can imagine causes a hardness of the tissue because it simply is “full”. This will also limit the amount of fat that can be transferred. This is done to make this procedure safer because it has a bad track record. Of course there can be numerous other explanation for the difference in outcomes. This is another good question for your doctor before surgery. Like “Where do you place the fat?” I hope this answers your question. The potential variables or differences in BBL procedures have more to do with the individual provider then what country they're in.  What country they're trained does have a big impact on their level of training which also includes ancillary services like anesthesia and local hospitals and emergency rooms.  I do not recommend traveling for elective surgical procedures. Patients do not appreciate the importance for after care, that  complications actually do happen and that 15% of patients will get cosmetic surgery will need a revision. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
