Can I have erbium laser resurfacing done twice?

HI I had erbium laser resurfacing done around 6 years ago. I have scars on my forehead and nose. I have tried fraxel non ablative, fat transfer, dermarolling and nothing has worked. I went to a surgeon who recommended erbium to soften the scars but also recommended doing the whole face again so I dont get the demarcation lines. Is it safe to have erbium resurfacing twice. The first time my face got very tight but he said he would do it on the lightest setting on my face and a bit deeper on the scars

Facial skin resurfacing can be performed multiple times in most patients, but this depends on the treatment strength, skin type, laser device, and other factors. I have some patients that will opt for laser skin resurfacing once per year. I would recommend speaking with your physician about any questions or concerns you might have.All the best,

Hi! Thank you for reaching out! It is safe to get laser resurfacing done more than once, especially with the amount of time that has passed between your first treatment and now. While an in-person second opinion is always recommended, full-field resurfacing with an erbium:YAG laser is a customizable and results-oriented procedure that I think could help address both scarring as well as any textural concerns. I would also be sure to ask about INTRAcel RF microneedling. In our practice, we use this to treat scarring from acne as well as stretch marks, so depending on the type of tissue on your forehead and nose, that may be a less invasive treatment plan. Yes, you can have erbium laser more than once and its safe. Scar treatments typically take multiple treatments depending on what it looks like. The feeling of tightness is a normal expectation right after a laser treatment.  Applying a thicker moisturizer during your recovery phase will get you through that tight feeling.

Hi!You can definitely have erbium more than once - usually I see patients once for full ablative erbium, and after that they often come in for 'touch-ups' on areas that continue to age faster (predominantly peri-orbital and peri-orally). I've never had complications from multiple sessions of erbium! Good luck!

Thanks for the question.  The short answer is yes.  In my practice, frequently will do it more than once depending on what outcome I am trying to achieve.  Only word of advice would be that, generally fractionated resurfacing (which can be done with some erbium lasers) is more effective for treating scarring that full field resurfacing and also heals much faster.  Good luck
