Rhinoplasty Before or After Pregnancy? (Photo)

Question

I've heard that pregnancy can come with potential for a bigger wider nose. I already want a rhinoplasty with septoplasty. I have a deviated septum and a drooping nose with a hump. It's a bit of a long nose. I wanted a doctor's advice on if given the choice should I get a rhinoplasty before conceiving, or after pregnancy is finished? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! I would suggest waiting until after your pregnancy. Rhinoplasty - especially open procedures - can cause quite a lot of swelling. Total healing times vary but usually take 8-12 months. With pregnancy, your hormones will be changing and this may cause untoward changes in the nasal skin during healing. I would wait a minimum of 6 months after your child's birth before proceeding to ensure you're back to a "baseline". This would ensure your most optimal outcome. Hope this helps.

Rhinoplasty before or after pregnancy? pregnancy should not permanently change the size or appearance of the nose, so it should not matter whether you have a rhinoplasty before or after a pregnancy.
