I just had my crown done for my molar and my dentist left a small gap on the back of the teeth. Is this normal?

My dentist said that she kept a little gap on the back of the crown so it will be easier to clean under the gum line. It’s not noticeable but I can feel the edge of the crown if I touch it by my tongue. Is this normal? She said she learned that in dental school. But I thought the crow is supposed to cover the whole teeth to protect it.

Hi:Normally silver crowns are temporary.  However, there are metal crowns that look like silver crowns as well that are permanent.  Its best to go to a dentist and have it removed.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Hi:Dry Socket is due to infection in the extraction site, it has nothing to do with left over cement.  Cement usually causes inflamation, once removed it should heal and go back to normal.Best,Dr. Maddahi.

Hi:My suggestion at this time is to place the permanent crown with temporary cement so if the pain continues the crown can be removed for root canal procedure.Best,Dr. Maddahi
