"Lip Pop" injection causing a speech impediment and cannot eat or swallow correctly.

Botox to the upper lip will cause a certain degree of muscle weakness.  The good news is that the botox in this area wear off very quickly.

Some patients are very sensitive when getting Botox around the mouth & lips. They don't like the way that it effects their speech and eating. This will go away on it's own over time. I doubt it is from swelling, and it could get worse over the next few days. I think your only treatment is time. Over time your botox effect will diminish
and your paralyzed muscle function will return and all will be back to
baseline. This may take several months though. In the interim, other muscles
may compensate and help the situation. Additionally, you may need on a short
term basis to adjust your eating style to compensate for your temporary motor
loss.

Thanks for your question and sorry that you are having your concerns at this time – Botox in this area can cause these concerns but it will not last and will wear off and improve over time.  Check with your provider as well and make sure they are aware of what is going on.  And make sure you get all of your treatments in the offices of board certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons.

Injection of Botox on the upper lip will not cause it to lift but to get longer. 8 units is a lot in this area and the side effects are from weakening the muscles in the area. this will wear off but unfortunately you need to be patient

The initial effect of Botox around the lip seems to be more potent then it will be after a few more days. I have noted that when my lips are first done I can not drink through a cup with a small hole but after another week the effect of my Botox has dropped off what seemed to be a plateau or maybe other muscles kicked in and the problem is gone. Give it another week or so.

My advise is never have any more BOTOX injected to your facial areas. After reading all your posts I would not use any toxin upon you. Now 4 units will metabolize over the next few weeks so the effect will slowly diminish. 

the lips. Botox is used to paralyze or weaken muscles. The muscles that act on the mouth raise the upper lip or constrict it to purse. Majority of the time when Botox is injected, it is designed to lower the lip by weakening the muscles that elevate it. when we weaken the muscle that purses the lip, we can expect the sphincter tone of the circular lip muscle to be weakened leading to oral incompetence and some difficulty with speech. All of this is temporary. It is best to consult a board certified dermatologist, general or facial plastic surgeon for such treatments.

Thank you for your question.  The so called "Botox Lip Pop" can cause difficulty forming certain letters, eating, etc. as it can weaken the muscles of your mouth.  Typically the pop technique is more safely performed using fillers like Volbella or Threads like Nova Threads Smooth to up turn the lip and give it a pop.  Botox plus filler or laser are best for lipstick or kissing lines and Botox into the DAO muscles can fix a drooping corner of the mouth.  Botox can also be placed in the upper lip/nasal area to fix a gummy smile.  For now you will have to wait until the Botox wears off, thankfully treatments in and around the mouth do not last long so you should be back to normal shortly.  Regards, Dr. Matt Elias

Have a recheck for an evaluation.  Botox slowly kick in over the first few days and its maximum effect is at about 2 weeks and then it wears off.Hopefully this is from bruising or swelling from the injection.
