Why do I have the lump of skin in between my eyes after botox to glabellar? (Photo)

When Botox is used to treat between the eyebrows (the glabellar area) and not enough is injected into the central muscle in this area (the procerus muscle), it can lead to over-activity of that muscle.  Luckily it is temporary but can also be easily fixed by having a bit more Botox injected into it.  In my Orange County office, we customize all of our Botox treatments and I always tell new patients that they should return after 2 weeks for a touch-up if it isn't perfect.  That way I can touch them up if needed and the next go-around we will know to inject more in any area that needed touching up.

I have seen the effect of Botox last as long as 6 months in some people, so since your treatment was 4 months ago I would say that everything should return back to how it was in the next month or so.  I think the lump you see between your eyes after the treatment is due to the fact that you have a deep furrow on either side of it.  A filler could be used to treat the furrows and help to smooth out the appearance in that area.  In some cases, Botox plus a filler gives the best result to the frown area.  

Thanks for the question and the photo and we always recommend that you have a consultation with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to learn what is going on with your case.  It appears that either some of the muscles are beginning to return – the procerus – and that you may need more toxin or you may need a small amount of HA filler here – this can be determined at the time of the consultation.

Some people get longer results from the injections but all will return to baseline eventually, the lump in the middle is your procerus muscle that has returned before the other areas that were injected
