I was wondering if I can have IPL, if I'm taking a birth control pills? I've been told, that there will be no difference in my skin after the IPL treatment. I have some sun spots and acne scars as well. Am I a good candidate or not?
Answer: IPL and Birth Control There is no interaction with birth control and IPL treatments, birth control makes you more UV sensitive not broadband light sensitivity. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: IPL and birth control meds My office specializes in photofacials. We use the IPL Limelight and there is no clinical data to support a contraindication between IPL and birth control pills. Do not undergo IPL if you are taking photosensitizing meds. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

Answer: Can I have IPL if I'm taking birth control pills? Best to obtain ONLY IN PERSON evaluations for your case. IPL can help but after a medical history and examination is obtained than a decision from the treating doctor can be made..

Answer: IPL and BCPs Good afternoon! First off, some birth control pills can make people more sensitive to light so be careful. If you do have IPL, make sure your provider knows your medication history and you may want to start light and/or do a test-spot first.Other than this, your medication should have no influence on your results except for the fact that BCPs tend to make pigment spots (i.e. melasma) worse, because our pigment cells in the skin are sensitive to estrogen. In patients with melasma, IPL may help or it might even make the condition worse. Consultation with an experienced provider is required in this case, and combined treatment (retinoids, skin lighteners, sunscreens, etc) is the rule. Without pictures, it's hard to tell for sure. Good luck on your journey!
