I find that fraxel and VI peel work well for this.  Also topical glycolic creams and other skin care for lightening.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Acanthosis nigricans is a condition that can signify glucose intolerance. It may also be seen more commonly in obesity. I would suggest that you consult with a dermatologist who is familiar with the workup and treatment of the condition. Obviously, addressing the underlying cause is the upmost importance; however, improving the appearance of the skin would be your next step. I have had success with chemical peeling and superficial resurfacing procedures to diminish the velvety texture and discoloration of the skin.

Best to have complete workup as to diabetes and/or malignancy. That topical cream could improve.
