When canthopexy is performed at the time of lower lid blepharoplasty, there is usually no significant additional downtime. External sutures, if used, will be removed within the first week, and the majority of swelling and bruising should improve within the first two weeks. However, because of the nature of eyelid tissue, it can take several weeks for the last bit of swelling to completely resolve and to see the final result.
Canthopexy ( tightening the eyelid corners) is usually done at the time of Eyelid Surgery. The healing time is the same as for the eyelid surgery that is approximately 1- 2 weeks for the skin incision to heal. .
Canthopexy is usually done at the same time as a lower blepharoplasty in order to tighten the lower lid and prevent downward displacement during healing. When done with a blepharoplasty, it adds no time to the healing. A canthopexy done alone feels relatively rapidly. Most sutures should be out within 3 or 4 days, allowing you to apply some camouflage makeup the next day. You will continue to have some swelling for a month or so and the bruising will take a couple weeks to totally resolve. However all this is easily disguised. the scar will also remain slightly red for at least a month or 2. This also can be easily hidden.
