Can Botox fluid drain under my eye? Received 20 units of Botox yesterday between eyebrows and along my eyes - crows feet area.

Question

As I got in my car to leave, I got a weird drainage right under my eye. I felt the fluid run down the bottom side of that eyelid. As if the fluid had gone from the outside of my eye and ran down under my eye. Is it possible for the injection to move and drain? If so, should I be concerned? The bottom of that same eye feels tight today.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  After injection Botox will spread or “diffuse” into the surrounding tissues based on the concentration used.  Typically this is approximately 1cm.  If your injector placed an injection into the bridge of your nose you may “feel” some drainage.  You will need to allow 10-14 days to pass to see the possible results so hang in there.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I do not think this was the Botox you were feeling draining. Give the Botox 1-2 weeks to work and if at that point you are unhappy with your results, I would followup with your injector.

There should be no correlation between fluid draining from eye and the Botox injection. Remember that Botox relaxes muscles, so the feeling of tightness in the lid is not the result of Botox. It might be possible that the skin was cleaned before or after treatment and this was the fluid that drained.
