Yes, we are using this system on our tummy tucks, in addition to a good, layered suture closure. It has been working well for us. Do you have a specific question about it?
Yes, I have been using Prineo for more than a year for abdominoplasty closure. The manufacturer promotes it as a time saver by replacing the need for a subcuticular suture. However, I always use a subcuticular suture as well. The Prineo is a great help with post operative wound care. There is virtually no after surgery wound care required. This incision stays dry with no bleeding, and is protected from unsanitary touching that might occur at home. This has almost eliminated small wound infections. I allow the patient to shower just as soon as he/she wants to. It peels off gradually in about 4 weeks. It is hard to say if the final scar is better or not. I had one person who reacted to the Prineo with increased pigmentation where the Prineo had been applied. Other than that I really like Prineo. It makes post op wound recovery so much easier.
Yes, I have been using dermabond prineo for my tummy tuck final dressing for about 1 year. I like it better than traditional dermabond because of the strength the mesh adds. I also like how low maintenance it makes post op dressing changes. I find it last longer than steristrips and produces less blistering problems. I am still undetermined about how much it improves the final scar appearance, in the past I have found that dermabond alone can lead to worse scars if it seeps in between the wound edges.
I like to use Dermabond (or other skin "glues") as an additional layer over the top of a closed incision for certain surgeries including abdominoplasty. I don't use it instead of a final layer of sutures, though - it's more like a dressing over the incision.
Yes, Prineo is frequently used on tummy tuck incisions. It works great and I believe helps patients get nicer scars. I allow patients to start showering after the drains come out and the Prineo stays on for about 3-4 weeks. A small percentage of patients will have allergic reactions to the tape so watch for any severe itching and rash,
Yes, dermabond and prineo are being used on the tummy tuck in some institutions. They are forms of skin closure and coverage over the incisions.
Hi,I have used this method of skin closure but I was not convinced by it. My patients complained that the tapes started to come off too soon and I didn't really have much confidence in it. That said, I know surgeons that do use it a lot and get great results.
