Hair shedding can occur with any of the modalities used for treatment of hair loss- minoxidil and spironolactone included. For most individuals with hair loss, shedding with spironolactone subsides within 2-3 months. If it continues, be sure to see your dermatologist. Other causes of shedding also need to be carefully reviewed including low iron (ferritin), thyroid abnormalities, anemias, and other causes of hair loss.
