The submandibular glands should be outside the treatment area of Kybella because the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve runs in proximity to the structure; Kybella can dissolve the myelin sheath of the nerve and is strictly contraindicated in this area. Regardless, a treatment of Kybella should have little or nothing to do with a submandibular gland stone.
Kybella is a treatment approved by the FDA to treat submental fat. It has nothing to do with the salivary glands.
Hi KKJ12, Thank you for sharing with us this question as it will be informative for the whole community here. When injecting Kybella or PCDC, consideration of anatomy and landmarks is essential. If proper technique is followed, then this should not affect the salivary glands. I am assuming that you visited an ENT Dr. and you are taking care of these stones. He/she will give you advise on how to handle the stones in your salivary glands. There is a risk of inflammation and infection if ignored. I advise my patients to optimize their medical conditions before proceeding with cosmetic procedures. If you have done that, then go ahead with an experienced injector. The other advice is to consider PCDC injection instead as it is less expensive and as effective. If you need any more details, please let me know. I hope this helps. During the Kybella (or other deoxycholate) treatments to the neck/under the chin fat, there is typically only a 6mm long (1/4 inch long) needle used for the injections.....which should not put the salivary glands in harm's way. Nevertheless, it is generally better to take care of medical conditions (such as salivary stones) PRIOR to having a cosmetic procedure done that is in the same general area. In the case of the Kybella, the resultant huge amount of (expected) swelling might cause the area of the stone to get irritated. So, to use an old phrase, it is better to be safe than sorry.
For some people, the amount of swelling after deoxycholate (active ingredient of Kybella) can cause dizziness and lightheadedness, and even fainting, due to "third spacing." This "third spacing" means enough of the water portion of the blood has left the blood circulatory system to go...
Thank you for your question. I'm happy to say that it is safe to use your neck firming cream after a Kybella treatment. All the best!
Thank you for your question. We used to have a patient who mentioned she had a hard small "core"in the middle of her submental fat after the first treatment. It disappeared about four weeks later before her second treatment. She didn't have it after her second...
